The group aims to provide sports training and competition in a variety of sports for people with a learning disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate achievement, experience enjoyment and participate with other Special Olympic athletes and the community.

For the first time Ellesmere Port & Neston Special Olympics are sending athletes to the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games, Leicester 2009. This is one of the biggest competitive opportunities for our athletes and promises to be a once in a lifetime experience and could also lead to World Games selection. Over 2,700 athletes representing 19 Special Olympics regions across the UK will visit the city of Leicester between the period of 25th- 31st July along with 1200 coaches and 1500 volunteers.

Athletes from Ellesmere Port & Neston will be representing the North West team comprising of 248 athletes in total. As a group we are rising to the challenge of raising the funds for our athletes and we would like to offer you the opportunity to assist them in reaching their goal. All the money that we raise really does make a difference and if you are able to support the group with their quest, we would very much appreciate it.

Sessions provided through the Ellesmere Port & Neston Special Olympics are available to the Helsby area.
