This month my attention has been brought to Claire House Children’s Hospice which cares for children 0-23 years with life threatening or life limiting conditions and their families from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life, Claire House provides specialist respite, palliative, terminal and bereavement care. £2.4 million is needed each year to keep the hospice open.

This is a crucial time for the charity as you may have seen in the press they fell short of this target last year and were forced to use a substantial sum from their reserves in order to remain operational. It is imperative they reach the target in 2009 to make sure they are able to continue providing the high standards of care that they are so proud of.
Fundraising to keep Claire House open is done by a small team of paid staff; therefore we rely heavily on our team of loyal and hardworking volunteers. However most of these volunteers are based in the Wirral and when the opportunity arises to fundraise further afield we sometimes miss out on opportunities to raise vital funds because we cannot staff the events.
If you feel you could offer your time, make a regular donation through our precious moments plan or come up with some creative fundraising ideas on your own or even as part of a larger group then please contact Abi Smith at Claire House on 0151 343 0883 or email
