Helsby Holistics offers Hydrotherm therapies (or warm water bed massage as it’s often referred to), in the comfort of your own home. This treatment is relatively new to this area and is often only available at high class Spas.
Emi Howe (formerly from The Comfort Rooms, Helsby) has always been very passionate about holistic therapies and quickly realised the great benefits of Hydrotherm. Since going mobile with her business, Emi has seen her client-base increase as more and more husbands are keen to give a treatment a go and feel the benefit.
So what exactly is it? I was intrigued and delighted to be treated to a Hydrotherm massage to find out for myself. Emi arrived along with everything that she would need, including towels and a music system, so I didn’t have to get anything ready. The comfortable couch was quickly erected in the bedroom (you don’t need much space) and Emi set about filling the ‘pillows’ with water from the bath tap. These were then placed over the couch and knee bolster and after checking that the temperature was ok for me, Emi left me alone to undress and then I was assisted in lying on top of the water pads, covered by a towel. It was like lying on a giant hot water bottle! 30 litres of warm water support and mould to the contours of your body so it is relaxation personified.
One of the main differences between Hydrotherm and traditional massage is that you remain the whole time lying on your back, but that’s not to say that your back isn’t worked on because it
is. Emi slid her hands between my back and the water pads and by using my own body weight as a resistance the muscles are all worked in turn. This is particularly of benefit to ladies with a large bust, or for those who find a ‘face hole’ or lying on the stomach uncomfortable.
Hydrotherm is a gentle yet effective, nurturing form of massage, many people refer to it as being a multi sensory experience. The warm water pillows can also be used for other treatments - Reiki, Aromatherapy, Facials, Head Massage, Reflexology and Hot Stone Massage.
