Where an idea born in Italy became reality in Frodsham!
Following several holidays and many samples of Italy’s legendary Gelato later, Aaron decided to bring this type of delicious Artisan Ice Cream to our local area.
It is estimated that there are only 20-30 true Italian Artisan businesses operating in the UK & we luckily have one!
To fulfil this dream, Aaron started out on his journey by training in Manchester with the Antonelli brothers who are the 5th generation of ice cream makers, with an Italian heritage and experience that spans well over 100 years.
So, what is Gelato and is it different to ice cream?
Unlike ice cream, which is made predominantly from cream, Gelato contains a higher proportion of whole milk, which is lower in fat, has less sugar and therefore fewer calories.
Due to the milk content this also means that Gelato freezes at a higher temperature - minus 13 degrees as opposed to minus 20 degrees for ice cream.
Gelato is churned considerably slower than ice cream which prevents the addition of too much air, thus producing a more dense consistency that is smooth, rich and creamy.
As there is less fat and air in Gelato the flavours are SO much more intense - unlike most farm branded ice creams that use preservatives, E numbers and flavourings, masked behind high fat & sugar contents. Plus, because of the warmer temperature of the product, it doesn’t freeze the taste buds... which also means that it doesn’t have to be a baking hot day to enjoy Gelato!
So, why don’t we generally eat Gelato in the UK?
Due to the lack of preservatives, E numbers and artificial flavourings Gelato needs to be eaten within 3-4 days. This of course makes it very labour intensive and expensive to make, especially when providing a choice of many different flavours such as those available at Bene Gelateria.
Following his training, Aaron had to then decide where to open his Gelato Bar and soon realised that as Frodsham already has other successful Artisan businesses, where the clientele favour quality over cost, it would be a perfect addition to the area.
This is proving to be a popular choice, it’s not only local people that are loving it, many other families travel from miles around to enjoy the experience. Not just for the quality and taste of the Gelato but also the fact that they know that only quality ingredients are used, which are sourced from all over the world...
For example 100% Sicilian pistachio nuts and the Amarena cherries that are used as a ripple are imported direct from Italy.
There are always 13 different flavours available at Bene Gelateria, six of which are standard and the other seven constantly rotate between 30 different recipes. So there is always something different to try. From Vanilla to Coconut, Mango & Yuzu, and everything in-between.
There is also a variety of dipped cones to choose from and a fun Mickey Mouse design for the children; all of which are freshly made and delivered weekly by a fantastic bakery in Manchester.
In addition to the amazing Gelato, Bene Gelateria offers deliciously hot luxury waffles, topped with homemade Chantilly cream and a crispy wafer and what’s even better is that you get to design your own. Choose your topping, the topping sauce and your choice of delicious Gelato, then sit back and enjoy! There’s also the option of a Waffle Sandwich and for smaller appetites, Waffle in a Cup.
Lavazza coffee is available and the Shakes and Sundaes are made with whole milk and finest Gelato. In addition to the main menu, Special Summer Mini Sundaes will be coming soon.
Take outs are available as selection boxes of 6 or 12 scoops, 1/2 ltr & 1ltr - Buon Appetito!
